The Elan Valley Pen y Garreg dam has this rather nice decorative tower on it. As you can see the vane is rather the worse for wear - the letter E has fallen off, and the N & W are drooping rather badly.

The equipment I use is a Canon 30D with Sigma 50-500mm lens. I also have a garden hide from which I take most of my pictures.

The next one up the valley is the Craig Goch dam and its vane is in far nicer condition!

Cheating slightly maybe, but this one is mine on my weather station on the side of the cottage!

Despite the angle Ive taken the pic, it does just about clear the roof line behind it - its not really high enough but I couldnt get it any higher safely.

I snapped this one on Monday at Hythe Marina, across from Southampton.

Afterwards I turned round to take the view from there!

Some weather vanes in Middelburg, Zeeland, NL.

One pic shows the town square as well, while the last one shows old houses beside a canal, the far left one having a weather vane on top!

This one was on our friends' house. A bit more high tech. than most as Frans likes his 'toys'!

Last pic shows the monitor inside the lounge - sorry it's a bit fuzzy, but I guess you'll make things out!

The Herring Gulls amused me - seemed to be watching a tennis match!

    Sorry, forgot to mention...

Love your shed ones, Beryl. Posh sheds in your area I think!

Rolf, trying to work out which masts belong to 'Victory' there..

That first Galleon one is amazing, but don't you think the golden one has lost its hull? The last one is similar to many on old, Georgian period houses in Middelburg, NL. I guess that was the standard weather vane pattern in those days!

This is the old Town Hall in Alston - a beautiful little market town hidden away in a remote corner of the North Pennines

And just across the road is the nice little church of St Augustines. Here we see the tower lit up by the glow of the setting evening sun

Alston & the surrounding area is really lovely. Ive been visiting for around 15 years now. Well recommended for a peaceful break.

The surrounding moorland is great for all sorts of birds - we have seen black grouse on numerous occasions over the years. The best view we ever had was when I almost ran over one that was standing in the middle of the road!

Some nice pubs in the area too.

Thats a wifi link for the Alston CyberMoor project. It was on the news at the end of last week

Some aerial views of Alston - this is most of the town!

Last one for now - spotted on a house in Teesdale not too far from High Force waterfall.

Got some funny looks from the locals screeching to a halt outside a farm, hopping out with the camera taking a couple of pics and heading off up the valley again

BTW Rolf you are most welcome to put any of my pics in the Wellencamp weather vane album if you want to.

The more people that enjoy them the better

Thanks Ross, probably just going to keep the Wellenkamp site for family stuff now, as we have the Gallery here, which we didn't when we started up.

Here's the Vane on the Hind's Head at Aldermaston village, Berkshire.

Ive spotted one on the council buildings down in Galashiels. Appears to be a fox and a plum tree - I'll tell you the relevance of the plum tree to local legend when I put the pics up!

The equipment I use is a Canon 30D with Sigma 50-500mm lens. I also have a garden hide from which I take most of my pictures.
