Nearly missed these two, not sure what the third one on the right hand side is, perhaps a cross breed.

Your Teal with the pair is a hybrid Rolf......I'm intrigued.

Could the 'hybrid' not be a melanistic male?

I don't know enough about it Catherine, will be interested in any information or suggestions forthcoming, there are colour variations/mutations of Pheasants, so why not in Teal.

The Teal is interesting and I have received two educated replies to my enquiries on the bird both of which claim the bird is in 'eclipse plumage'. This is still rather odd for the time of year and represents one of those strange events in the bird world which you can come across now and again. I won't go into anymore complicated details for the time being.

Thanks for posting this interesting pic and also for letting me take a copy Rolf.

    Pete.
