    Default Today at Southampton

The two Queens - Queen Mary 2 and Queen Victoria - left Southampton today at 4.30pm. It was really busy where we were (Hythe Marina).

You can see the Queen Victoria way up river (red funnel). She was rather late in leaving!

29th August would be a good day for anyone to be at Hythe Marina. 5 cruise liners are due to leave between 4.30 and 5pm, including the QM2 and the largest cruise liner in the world (until next year!) Independence of the Seas.

Hm, something really majestic about these big liners, the size of them is awe inspiring. Nice photos Catherine.

Thanks for that Catherine. The size is amazing - I once walked by the side of a big ship in dock and I found it quite scary. Mind you, the second from last shot looks like a wedding cake
I recently bought about liners and the 'golden age'. Not read it yet though.

Since the demise of the QE2 (now en route to South Africa since Dubai can't afford to refit her?), I think the QM2 is the only cruise liner with style still to sail out of Southampton water. All the rest are custom-built blocks of flats - like McCarthy and Stone places afloat!

I wonder what the new QE3 will REALLY be like....?

I didn't realise that there was going to be a QE3. I think that the days of style are long gone
